The Joint Task Force (JTF) in Yobe has confirmed the death of the Divisional Police Officer in Potiskum and three gunmen in an attack on the police station on Monday.
Lt. Eli Lazarus, JTF spokesman in the state, said the gunmen suspected to be members of radical islamist sect Boko Haram attacked Potiskum Police Station in the early hours of Monday.
He said that during the attack three gunmen were killed, while the Divisional Police Officer also died later in hospital from injuries sustained in the clash.
The statement said that bodies of some gunmen suspected to have been killed in the attack were carried away by surviving members of the group, who fled.
The task force gave the assurance that they were hunting for the gunmen and would provide security in the area.
It also solicited for useful information from the public to restore peace and security in the troubled area.
