Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad will travel to Niger for a two-day visit, his first to the world's fourth uranium producer, the government in Niamey said Saturday.
"The president of the Islamic Republic of Iran Mahmoud Ahmadinejad will come for a two-day visit in our country beginning on Monday," according to a government statement read out on national television Saturday.
"He will lead a large delegation and both our nations will discuss cooperation and means of strengthening it," Iran's ambassador said after meeting Niger's President Mahamadou Issoufou.
Mohammad Nikkhah said the visit would yield "excellent opportunities that will benefit both peoples".
He did not elaborate but Niger is one of the world's top producers of uranium, which Iran has long been seeking to acquire for its controversial nuclear programme.
Investigations have also revealed that the Iranian leader is to meet secretly with leaders of Islamic sect Boko Haram who operate in the north of Nigeria.
Boko Haram have been in a fierce battle with the Nigerian state since 2009 and have claimed over 4,000 lives.

ReplyDeleteWhen it comes to issues of terrorism, alliances are not necessarily formed on the backdrop of same sect particularly when there is a political or economic interest attached, help can come from anywhere and it will be accepted as long as it enables d terrorist group achieve their agenda. The question we should be asking ourselves is -does iran have any political, economic or otherwise interest in nigeria?
ReplyDeleteWhatever religious faith you profess as an individual does not in anyway earn you a ticket to heaven. The sure ticket to heaven is a measure of how right you are with the omini-potent, the omini-present,the creator of the universe and of mankind. You sometimes limit God to our mortal experiences. God is not helpless and has not call anyone to be the administrator of justice on his behalf. If God were to act from our stand point of view not a single soul will stand. He has call everyone to repentance and has given everyone the opportunity to know him and not be consumed by destruction.
ReplyDeleteIslam is the only entity fighting itself, from it very foundation, it was built on violence and violence has been its mother name. How do you explain a situation where the same phenomenon of violence keep happening among the same group people across the globe yet they claim to be the custodians of peace
ReplyDeleteIt is only the narrowed mindded that will adopt the strategy of compulsion and coercion as a model to win souls to their own side of the divide, such strategies are deemed uncivilized,barbaric,archaic/primitive,evil and satan personified.God is not a party to this strange ideology created by the imaginations of mortals
