At least five people including two Malian soldiers and three fighters have been killed in a bomb attack in the northern part of the African country, military officials say.
According to a statement released by Colonel Kassim Goita on Saturday, the fatalities happened in Amakoudji, a village about 45 kilometers north of the city of Gao, after several fighters detonated their explosives near a vehicle carrying Malian soldiers.
At least four soldiers were also wounded in the attack, the statement added.
Investigations have also revealed that many Mali insurgents have fled to Northern Nigeria and authorities worry this might further escalate the Islamist campaign championed by Boko Haram.
Meanwhile, a French soldier was killed in northern part of the West African country on April 29, bringing the death toll for French troops in the West African country to six.
France launched a war in Mali on January 11, 2013 under the pretext of halting the advance of rebel fighters in the country.
The French-led war on Mali, which Paris launched on January 11, has caused a serious humanitarian crisis in the northern areas of the country and displaced thousands of people, who now live in deplorable conditions.
Amnesty International said on February 1 that serious human rights breaches -including the killing of children- were being conducted in Mali.
Some political analysts believe Mali's abundant natural resources, including gold and uranium reserves, could be one of the reasons behind the French war against the African country.
