Islamic extremist group Al-Shabaab shot down an American drone flying over the Somali town of Buulo Mareer on May 27.
The Pentagon confirmed the loss of the drone, yet many are still wondering what the drone was doing flying over Somalia in the first place.
This particular drone that the extremists reportedly spent hours shooting at possesses unique capabilities used to send messages to large crowds and take pictures of them from very far distances.
In addition to being able to drop bombs, the CamCopter S-100 was equipped with a loudspeaker that could be heard from over 2 kilometers away. It can also take high definition photographs from similar distances.
But it’s primary function was actually to drop leaflets, either to warn the public of a potential threat or to warn suspected terrorists to surrender if they don’t want to be blown to bits.
There’s no word as to why the drone didn’t fire back on the extremists who shot it down. Yet even though we had to sacrifice a weapon for information, the drone definitely did its job in confirming that this area of Somalia is harboring a significant portion of terrorists.

ReplyDeleteI guess this drone was meant to be planted in Somalia..... A drone that could transmit sound from its base to destination can as well record and transmit vice-versa...... Americans will never abandon a weapon like that nonchallantly!!!...
