Barely two days after the Kaduna state command of the Nigerian Immigration Service had deported 49 illegal citizens of Niger republic; the command again on Saturday arrested another 111 illegal Nigerians in various part of the state, among them a Chadian national.
Parading the suspects before newsmen, the Comptroller of the command, Hamman Yerima gave them a stern warning not to return to Nigeria or risked being prosecuted if they are caught again.

He said that none of the arrested suspects could produce any valid travelling document and therefore, emphasized the need for effective policing of the country’s porous borders.

He said the ongoing onslaught against illegal foreigners will continue until such people are flushed out of the country.

Between January to June 2013, the command has deported over 1, 000 illegal foreigners, with Niger topping the list of those arrested.

Meanwhile, the Kano State Command of Nigeria Immigration Service on Saturday arrested more than 400 suspected illegal immigrants in Kano metropolis.

The Controller of Immigration in the state, Hamisu Maishanu, told journalists at a briefing in Kano that all those arrested would be screened and those without relevant documents would be repatriated to their countries.

He said the exercise would continue to ensure that all illegal immigrants were flushed out of the country.

“This is a mop up exercise of illegal immigrants to complement what the Federal Government is doing in the states currently under emergency rule.

‘’We will take the photographs and biometric data of all those arrested so that we can identify them if they return into the country again,’’ he said.

Mr. Maishanu said, however, that any repatriated person, who returned without proper documents, would be arrested and prosecuted. He said the exercise would be extended to the 44 local government areas of the state.

He advised the people not to panic on seeing security men on patrol as the exercise was meant to ensure security of lives and property.

  1. This is a step in the right direction. These people have always been a nuisance to Nigeria. They are mainly beggers and do not contribute in anyway to our economy. The time Nigeria is playing big brother Africa is over I'm glad the president and minister gbenga Ashiru are doing this. At least these countries will know we don't take nonsense any more if they doubt let them ask SA, kenya, Niger and Lebanon.

  2. If one is to believe this report it is quite worryng. The headline states "Illegal Nigerians" along with the report that people are being deported without any evidence of their origins ("none could prodeuce valid travel documents") seems to me to be the usual extra judical reaction of the Nigerian security forces. There is a concept here of fair play and natural justice. Taking people and expelling them without proper process is simply wrong. It potrays the Nigerian State as thugs, acting an a whim without thought or concern for error. Many Nigerians have no travel documents, in the face of this interrogation how can they prove their right to stay in their own country and where will they be sent? mistakes will be made, very bad example to give to ordinary decent uneducated folk. That is of course if this report is to be believed. AFRICA EAGLE YOU NEED TO BE FAR MORE QUESTIONING OF THE ACTIONS OF THE STATE, not to mention the sources of your storys
