Nigeria's Deeper Life Suspends Pastor Kumuyi’s Son & Daughter-In-Law For Unlawful Wedding

John Kumuyi, a son of the General Superintendent of the Deeper Christian Life ministry Pastor William Kumuyi, and his newly wedded wife Love have been banned from the church after their wedding was adjudged unlawful by the church’s standards.
John and Love wedded in Jamaica on 15 June, 2013, only to receive thousands negative comments from members of the church.

Many condemned the wedding gown worn by the wife-to be, also other aspects of the wedding that were at variance with the church’s standards.

Love’s attires turned out to differ from the conventional ones set for Deeper Life members. Lots of people noticed her hair wasn’t “natural” and that she applied lipstick as part of the make-up.

A limousine hired to deliver the couple to their destination after the wedding, a huge cake that was served at the ceremony were contrary to the church’s tradition.

The church leaders decided to place the couple on suspension to give them time to pray and seek forgiveness from God for their action, following countless comments on social media and by the members of Deeper Life.

John and Love’s suspension from church activities was announced last Saturday, at Deeper Life’s monthly Miracle and Revival Programme, held at the Deeper Life Conference Centre (DLCC), Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The news was delivered by PastorPhilip Oluwi, a key leader in the church, who obviously was following the instructions from the General Superintendent of the church, Pastor William Kumuyi. Oluwi stressed that the standard of Deeper Life regarding wedding and moderacy had not changed.

“The church, Deeper Life, remains committed to the biblical practice and standard of almost 40 years Christian dressing and still remains and does not compromise on biblical Christian dressing.

“Hence, deviation warrants the displeasure and frown of God and the leadership of the church. John and Love are now under discipline,” Oluwi announced to the entire congregation.

The couple has already apologised to the church for the inappropriate way the wedding was conducted. The letter was read by Oluwi and re-read several times to church members by the Church’s Secretary, Pastor Jerry Asemota. The letter, addressed to the Church Secretary and titled ‘Letter of Apology,’ expressed the deepest regret of the couple for bringing the church into disrepute.

  5. I believe this is jst medicine after death. Why did the church conduct the wedding in the first instance? They should simply have walked the bride out of the church. Its mandatory they check every brides' wedding attire at least a month before the wedding, why didn't they check the wifes dress? I feel this is just a way of covering up. The church leadership bent rules because of the persons involved and its all clear. The standard of God stands sure though and that should be our watchword now. Its only Gods word that's the same yesterday, today and forever!!!!!

  6. Yes they do. Its the usual thing. I know of so many people that were told to adjust their tailor made wedding dresses to suit the church standard.

  7. Only God's standard should be followed, not even 'church'/man-made standard which breeds hypocrisy and deceit. Ask majority of those complaining, didn't they want something like that? To show displeasure, if indeed the 'kids' acted on their own, the pastor officiating shouldn't have solemnized the matrimony. I leave Pastor(GS) out of this- we all know his stand and pedigree. May God help His churuch.

  14. how a wedding is conducted is not going to determine whether you make heaven or not. these people have to start looking beyond rules created by man and look towards making heaven and running the christian race instead of meddling into other people's affairs.

  15. let's be careful when we make public comments. The wedding was done in the wife's church(denomination). If it's different from the man's, Deeper Life may not have ay say in tailoring the events to their standard. ...And if we think John should have picked a wife from his own denomination, is that a rule? However John was supposed to have intimated his Dad before that day and sought elderly counsel. To those of us who condemned the disciplinary action, please stop it if it's a joke; John is involved and he had apologized because he knows the church standard. The 'prodigal son' was received back by his father, afterall. You have your own practice in your own denominations too. If your pastors are not against it, women can even o to the alter naked/1/2 naked: IT DOESN'T MATTER IN SOME CHURCHES, IT DOESN'T MATTER TO SOME PASTORS-IT'S PART OF THEIR DOCTRINE!

  16. THANKS FOR THAT COMMENT. EVEN IF THE WEDDING WAS DONE IN DEEPER LIFE, PASTOR W.F KUMUYI WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN IN FULL PICTURE OF THE WEDDING ARRANGEMENTS SINCE THE WEDDING WAS DONE IN JAMAICA. HE WOULD THINK ALL WAS WELL. HE'S NOT OMNIPRESENT. IF HE HAD ASKED FOR DETAILS BEFORE THE WEDDING, SOME OF US WOULD STILL CONDEMN HIM...'IS IT BECAUSE IT'S HIS SON'S WEDDING?" WHAT WILL YOU NOT EVEN CONDEMN HIM FOR? I THINK IT'S THE UNRELIABLE "SHALLOW LIFER PASTOR" THAT FAILED IN HIS RESPONSIBILITY AND STILL WENT AHEAD TO DO THE SOLEMNIZATION THAT SHOULD RECEIVE MORE STROKES OF THE CANE. LEAVE BABA OUT OF THIS MATTER. THEN JOHN SHOULD BE DISCIPLINED TOO, SO THAT OTHERS WILL LEARN.

  17. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE DRESSING IN THE PICTURE ABOVE? IS THE BRIDE NAKED? I JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND. WHEN WILL THIS CONDEMNATION SPIRIT IN THE BODY OF CHRIST IN NIGERIA STOP?
