PRINCE William is to host the first-ever football match at Buckingham Palace – to celebrate the FA’s 150th birthday.

One of the Queen’s back lawns will be turned into a pitch where the Southern Amateur League’s Poly-technic FC will play Civil Service FC, the only surviving club of 11 who formed the FA in 1863.

William, who dreamed up the idea in his role as Association President, said: “It is hugely important for the FA to honour the efforts of the many thousands of volunteers."

On Friday Prince William got in sporty mood to launch the Ring O’ Fire Coastal Ultra Marathon.

New mum Kate Middleton also made a surprise first public appearance since the birth of Prince George at the event in North Wales.
