The 2014 BET awards held on Sunday at the Nokia Theatre, Los Angeles, saw African entertainers emerge winners.
Some of the Africans that won awards were Nigerian pop star, David ‘Davido’ Adeleke; U.K.-born Nigerian actor, Chiwetel Ejiofor; Kenya’s star actress, Lupita Nyong’O

“12 Years a Slave” was chosen as best movie, with the film’s stars, Lupita Nyong’o and Chiwetel Ejiofor, walking home with Best actress and Best actor respectively.

Davido beat other Africa artistes including Tiwa Savage, South Africa’s Mafikizolo, Ghana’s Sarkodie, Tanzania’s Diamond Platnumz and Togo’s Toofan to win the “Best international Act- Africa”.

Earlier in June, Davido also won the ‘Best African Act’ award at the MTV Africa Music Awards.

An excited Davido announced he won via his @iam_Davido Twitter handle, “Thanks to all my fans!! WE WON”.

The BET’s African best act category has been largely dominated by Nigerian artistes in recent times. At the 2013 edition of the BET, Nigerian rapper, Ice Prince, won the award, while at 2012 edition, Wizkid and Ghana’s Sarkodie were joint winners; just as Tuface and D’banj were also joint winners of the category at the 2011 edition of the awards.

The biggest winner of the night was Beyonce. The pop superstar won three awards, including the 2014 FANdemonium award, voted by viewers.
