Award-winning Afro-fusion singer Suzanna Owiyo has been appointed as a brand ambassador for Plan.
Plan is an international development non-profit organisation operating in 50 countries across Africa, Asia and the Americas to promote and protect the rights of children. In her ambassadorial role, Owiyo will be spearheading the organisation's 'Because I Am A Girl' campaign in Africa particularly in Kenya.
"Humbled to join @PlanGlobal as their Goodwill Amb 4 #bcimagirl Campaign.With Plan Inter.Director RESA #RolandAngerer," the Kisumu 100 hit-singer posted on her Twitter account on Monday.
The organisation is one of the world's largest child-centred community development organisations. It focuses on education, economic security, water and sanitation, sexual health, and child participation among others. Slumdog Millionaire star Anil Kapoor is an ambassador for Plan India. He donated his entire fee for the movie to the NGO's Universal Birth Registration campaign. In the US, some notable people associated with Plan International include Jacqueline Kennedy, David Elliot, Beau Bridges, Dina Eastwood, Scott Bakula and Nicholas D. Kristof. The organisation was featured in the 2002 film About Schmidt.
