“We carry on, because, as Americans, we don’t give into fear --ever”
-President Barack Obama
After 13 years, America remembers that tragic day in which 2997 people lost their lives during the September 11 attacks.

President Barack Obama alongside his wife, Michelle, and his Vice President Joe Biden observed a moment of silence at 8:46 am, the time that the first plane had hit the World Trade Center.

With survivors and victims of the 9/11 attacks in attendance at the Pentagon Memorial, President Obama paid tribute to all the men and women who had lost their lives all those years ago. In his address to the people he said “Your families have turned this day into something that those who attacked us could never abide, and that is a tribute of hope over fear, and love× over hate”.

He also acknowledged the first responders and the service members who had lost their lives while trying to save other people. He said that America endures in the people who keep it safe and the courage of the men and women who serve under the American flag.

In New York City the names of the people who passed away was called out after they observed a moment of silence also at 8:46am. There were three other times that the roll call was stopped for moments of silence. These were to remember the second plane that crashed into the South Tower of the World Trade Centre at 9:03am, the plane that crashed into the Pentagon at 9:37am and the last plane which crashed into a ground Pennsylvania at 10:03am.

The people who read out the names of the roll call involved stories about the victims including one about a young boy who joined the military after his uncle died due to the attacks. Others sent out messages for the loved ones that they had lost all those years ago.

May 21 2014 a Museum dedicated to the events that took place on September 11th was opened to the public. During the week before the official opening families of the first responders and victims of the attacks were allowed to visit the museum.
