While Nigerian troops are still battling to dislodge the Boko Haram terrorist group from Bama and Gwoza in Borno State, the government of Adamawa State has confirmed that insurgents have taken over Gulak, the headquarters of Madagali Local Government Area of the state.

The confirmation was contained in a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Liman Tukur and made available to journalists on Saturday. Liman stated that the terrorists had killed and displaced lots of people.

The statement reads inter alia:

“it has come to the attention of the Adamawa State Government that insurgents are now in Gulak, the headquarters of Madagali Local Government Area and had killed and displaced scores of people.
On behalf of the people and government of Adamawa, His Excellency deeply sympathises with the people of Gulak and other surrounding villages and towns whose areas had been overran by insurgents.

The concomitant effects of the insurgency like displacement of whole villages and towns create multitudes of internally displaced persons whose management and welfare, the government is left to bear.”

Checks revealed that the National Emergency Management Agency has been directed to assist the displaced people.

People in areas bordering Madagali LG, like Michika Local Government have started fleeing to Yola, Uba and Mubi for fear of terrorists who are believed to be approaching.
