Former military president, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (rtd) who left for medical treatment in Germany has undergone surgery for an undisclosed ailment at a highbrow hospital in the country.
It was learnt that the former Nigeria leader left Nigeria on September 6, 2014 and underwent a successful surgery five days later.
A source close to Babangida’s Hill Top residence said that the ailing former military leader was to have travelled for a routine medical checkup before his last birthday on August 17, 2014, but was prevailed upon by family members to stay behind to mark his birthday in Nigeria.
It was however learnt that after the birthday he decided to make the journey but that he was not in any critical health condition.
The source, however, told reporters that Babangida had been having complications resulting in some pains in his back and had decided to go for a comprehensive medical attention.
“He went to Germany and underwent a minor surgery to correct some of the abnormalities causing the back pains. The surgery was successful. I can tell you we have not heard of any complications. In fact, we are expecting him back this week if everything goes as initially planned; if there is anything wrong, we should be aware, for not quite one hour ago, somebody from the house talked to him,” the source said.
