Super Eagles poor performance in the ongoing qualifying matches for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations has begin to manifest as the team slumped three places in the latest FIFA Rankings released on Thursday.
The team formally ranked 34th last month now ranks 37th and is now sixth-ranked African side behind Algeria , Cote d'Ivoire , Tunisia , Ghana and Senegal .
Nigeria lost 3-2 to Congo in Calabar before playing a goalless draw with South Africa in Cape Town .
Congo benefited from its two victories last month by moving 30 places up to 48 while South Africa only moved up two places to 67th. Final Group A side Sudan dropped 18 places to 133 in the world.
World champions Germany tops the Rankings with Argentina in second place.
The Netherlands, which won bronze at the World Cup, dropped to 4th on the Rankings as Colombia moved up to third position.
Fomer world champions, Spain fell to the 8th spot with France in 9th place as Switzerland occupies the tenth position.
In Africa, Ghana moved up three places to stay 33rd in the world and fourth in the continent with Senegal onto the 36th spot and fifth in the region.
Cameroon moved up 12 places to 42nd. Even at this leap, it is the eighth highest-ranked African side.
Cape Verde is the highest movers having jumped 33 places up to the 41st place in the world and seventh in Africa, while Congo which stunned Nigeria 3-2 in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers moved 30 steps up to emerge as the 48th best team in the world and 11th on the continent.
The next rankings will be published on October 23.
