A governorship aspirant under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Nasarawa State, Mr. Chris Mamman, on Sunday night, was kidnapped by yet to be identified gunmen, following an allegation of gross misconduct against him during his tenure as the National President of Eggon Cultural Development Association (ECDA).
Investigations by the Nigerian Tribune, revealed that the angry youths, descended on him at Aren Eggon palace in Nasarawa Eggon Local Government Area of the state and also set his Toyota Corolla car ablaze.
Mamman, one of the 13 PDP governorship aspirants, seeking to vie for governorship seat in 2015 general election under the PDP, was said to have been picked in his house in Lafia around 8.30 p.m of that fateful night.
When contacted on phone in Lafia, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Ismaila Numan, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) confirmed the attack but added that he was yet to receive any information on his abduction.
Meanwhile, gunmen on Friday were reported to have killed a German expatriate said to be a sub-contractor of a giant construction company, Julius Berger Plc, in Sagamu Area of Ogun State, while his colleague was abducted by the hoodlums.
This incident, the Nigerian Tribune learnt, occurred when the two foreign nationals were traveling to Ogbere in Ijebu East Local Government Area of the state in two vehicles, when the hoodlums opened fire on them.
A source, who spoke with newsmen on condition of anonymity, said the foreigners traveled without security escorts.
The incident, was confirmed by the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Abimbola Oyeyemi .
Oyeyemi told the Nigerian Tribune that the state Police Command, had swung into action to ensure the release of the abducted foreigner.
He explained that the incident occurred last Friday when the victims were traveling to a quarry in Ogbere.
Informed palace source told the Nigerian Tribune that he was in the palace on the invitation of the paramount ruler alongside Senator Ewuga and Mr. Labaran Maku, to discuss how to pick a consensus candidate among them to represent the Eggon interest in the 2015 general elections.
When contacted, the Director General of Chris Mamman Campaign Organisation (CMCO), Mr Nawani Aboki, said that the aspirant was last seen at about 8.30pm on Sunday night, in Lafia, after he was rescued from the mob in Nasarawa Eggon.
He alleged that the attack on his candidate and his subsequent abduction was the hand work of his political opponents.
According to him, “our candidate was in Nasarawa Eggon as part of effort by the Eggon traditional council to ensure that they are able to speak with one voice and have one candidate but as our candidate was approaching the palace, mob came out and accosted him and manhandled him but was later rescued.
“All other candidates of Eggon extraction were there, Maku and Ewuga but we don’t know who might have masterminded the attack among them.
“Even after he was rescued, we were told later in the day that some unknown people came and took him away and we don’t know who the persons are and we are yet to make contact with him 12 hours after”, he added.
When contacted on phone in Lafia, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Ismaila Numan, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) confirmed the attack but added that he was yet to receive any information on his abduction.
“The Command has commenced investigation into the matter. We are working round the clock to ensure the release of the abducted person. The culprits will be brought to book. We appeal to members of the public, who have any useful information about the incident not to hesitate in assisting the police in its investigation about this matter.
“We are assuring residents of the state of the command’s determination to provide adequate security for them,” he added.
