Abraham Lincoln, former United States president, lost the presidential election on two occasions before finally winning to lead his country. Today, he is one of the best presidents America has had.
In Nigeria, General Muhammadu Buhari had lost on three previous occasions, and he has now been elected to represent the All Progressives Congress (APC) in next year’s presidential election.
Buhari is 72, and this will definitely be the last time he can contest for the presidency; after losing the 2011 elections, he had promised not to contest again, but his love for the country has changed that.
Now that he is the standard bearer of the APC in the coming election, Nigerians are waiting eagerly to know if he would become Nigeria’s Abraham Lincoln by winning the presidency after successive defeats, or he would go down in history as a presidential candidate who lost four elections. The answer for this would be revealed in February 2015 after the presidential election.
