The military Special Taskforce on Jos crisis, STF, said it defused an explosive planted at a secondary school, Trinity College in Jos, Plateau State, in the early hours of Thursday.

The exercise was successful as no casualties were recorded, the spokesperson of the STF, Ikedichi Iweha, a Captain in the Nigeria Army, told journalists in Jos Thursday.

“Security agents got the information through a vigilant Nigerian who spotted the device and alert them,” he said. “I want to use this avenue to appeal to all citizens to be watchful of things around them and report promptly to security agent.”

It was gathered from experts that the device was meant to explode within six to eight hours after it was planted, and was designed to cause large scale loss of lives.

On May 20, twin bombs exploded at the busy Jos main market -Terminus Market, killing more than 200 people.

Among the dead were seven Medical Laboratory Science final year students of the University of Jos.
The massive explosion rendered the bodies of most of the victims unrecognisable. The dead were given a mass burial by the state government.
