“I’m a let you finish, but…” came the famous line as he interrupted her big Best Video win with, “But Beyoncé’s video was one of the best of all time. ALL TIME.”

In fact, it took the pair until Sunday to make friends again in public.

So he thought he’d relive that moment all over again and invade Beck as he accepted his Album of the Year award for Morning Phase, again beating Beyoncé.

“I just know that the Grammys, if they want real artists to keep coming back, they need to stop playing with us,” he told E! News after the ceremony.“We ain't gonna play with them no more. And Beck needs to respect artistry and he should've given his award to Beyoncé.

“Because when you keep on diminishing art and not respecting the craft and smacking people in their face after they deliver monumental feats of music, you're disrespectful to inspiration,“ he continued. ”And we as musicians have to inspire people who go to work every day, and they listen to that Beyoncé album and they feel like it takes them to another place.”

But Beck’s response wasn’t nearly as heated as one might have expected.

“I was just so excited he was coming up,” he told US Magazine of the moment he clapped eyes on Kanye arriving on the podium. “He deserves to be on stage as much as anybody.

“How many great records has he put out in the last five years right?”

Asked whether he agreed that Beyoncé should have won the award, he said “absolutely”.

“I thought she was going to win. Come on she's Beyoncé!”

“You can't please everybody, man,” he replied. “I still love him and think he's genius. I aspire to do what he does.”
