Coach of the Nigerian under-23 team, Samson Siasia, is optimistic his side will put paid to qualification for this year’s All-Africa Games when they host Zambia in Abuja on Sunday.
The Dream Team VI advanced into the final qualification round with a 6-1 aggregate victory over their Gabonese counterpart.
They will host Zambia U-23, who were awarded outright progress without taking to the park following the withdrawal of their first round opponents Madagascar. The winner of the two-legged tie secures a place in the Men’s Football Tournament of the 11th All-Africa Games scheduled for Congo Brazzaville in July.
“My boys are ready for the Zambians. Our focus is on doing the job here in Abuja on Sunday so that we can then put our feet down in the return leg,” Siasia said.
“Our match against Lobi Stars on Saturday helped a lot. We have been able to notice a few places that we need to continue to work on.”

The former Super Eagles’ handler added that his team has its sights on the All-Africa Games as well as the Men’s Football Tournament of the 2016 Olympic Games.
“Of course, we are ambitious. Our first target is the All-Africa Games, and then we start the qualification series for the CAF U-23 Championship where the qualifiers for the Olympic Games would emerge. We have a measure of what we must do to reach these targets.”
Meanwhile, the Confederation of African Football (Caf) has named Tunisian official Said Mohamed Kordi as centre referee for the final round first leg qualifier, billed for the Abuja National Stadium.
His compatriots, Anouar Hmila, Mohamed Bitouta and Nasrallah Jaouadi will serve as assistant referee1, assistant referee 2 and reserve referee respectively.
Apanga Lucien Nazaire, from Gabon, will be the match commissioner.
