No fewer than 2,500 people have taken to the streets of Garissatown to protest last Thursday's al-Shabab attack on Garissa University campus.
The protesters marched  in a show of defiance against militant Islamist
group al-Shabab following its deadly assault on the university which left 148 people dead.
BBC reports that Muslims and Christians took part in the march, vowing to remain united against the al-Qaeda-linked Somalimilitants.
In a related development, students also hit the streets of Nairobiin protest, demanding better security of campuses.
The protesters said they were no longer prepared to be "at the mercy of al-Shabab" and demanded that the government tighten security at universities and schools across Kenya.
They also mourned the dead, holding placards which read "You remain in our hearts!" and "RIP comrades".
Kenya has been the target of several attacks from al-Shabab including the 2013 attack on Westgate Mall in which about 67 people died. However, the Garissa attack has been described as the deadliest attack in Kenya by the group.
Following the deployment of troops in Somalia to fight the group, the militants have promised a "long, gruesome war" against Kenya
