A severe fuel scarcity is currently plaguing major cities in Nigeria, especially Abuja and Lagos.
The situation has left many commuters stranded while many car owners have abandoned their vehicles in front of petrol stations.
The scarcity is said to have been caused by the refusal of members of the National Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO) and Petroleum Tanker Drivers (PTD) to transport fuel due to debts being owed them by petrol marketers.
The marketers claim that they haven’t paid the transporters because they are also being owed a sum of N256.2 billion by the federal government.
The scarcity is expected to end soon as the FG has concluded plans to pay the marketers N156bn out of the money owed them today, Thursday, April 30, 2015.
