SOUTH AFRICA: 6 Men Arrested For Abducting And Raping A Teenager In South Africa

Six young men are expected to appear in the Magistrate’s Court in Qwaqwa, Free State, after being arrested on Wednesday evening in connection with the abduction and rape of a 17-year-old girl in Moboshoane.



Sergeant Mmako Mophiring told News24 the girl and her guardian were at home in the Mangaung village when someone knocked on the door.

“When the guardian opened, they pushed her aside and stormed into the house and kidnapped the girl,” Mophiring said.

The men, all of them aged between 20 or 21 years, took the girl to another house in the same section against her will, where four of the men raped her.

She came back home on her own, whereafter they phoned the police and the men were arrested.

The suspects were expected to appear in the Phuthaditjhaba Magistrate’s Court on Friday.

“We expect them to apply for bail, but we will oppose it. We take crimes against women and children extremely seriously,” Mophoreng said.

“We are also investigating the possibility that these suspects can be linked to other crimes in the area. There have been several cases of housebreaking where women or children were raped, and it is not impossible that these suspects can be linked to those crimes.”
