President Muhammadu Buhari has finally spoken up on the issue of Senate President Bukola, who is currently being tried by the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) on charges of false asset declaration.

Speaking during an exclusive interview with SaharaTV, Buhari said that his confidence in Senator Saraki will be hinged on the outcome of the CCT trial, dding tht for now he has to work with the Senate President as is required by the constitution.

He said: “There are people [Ministers] I want to work with. I cannot work with them unless the National Assembly approves, so I have been writing to the Senate President and to the leader of the House—it is in the constitution.”

On if his role as President affords him the choice of pressuring the judiciary to drop charges against Saraki, President Buhari said: “I could be successfully impeached if I do it.”

The President also reacted to the criticisms that have greeted the absence of a Nigerian delegation at a high level United Nations meeting on the effects of African countries dealing with the effects on Boko Haram, the President said they were not invited.

He said: “If we are not invited then we cannot be there.”

He continued by saying: “everybody knows that we are very serious about Boko Haram. If we know there is a meeting by the international community about Boko Haram, then we will be there. So we have to be invited.”
