The Confederation of African Football confirmed this past weekend that they have issued fines to both Al Ahly and ES Setif for offences committed in the CAF Champions League this year.
The Egyptian giants – who played to a goalless draw with Zamalek in their final 2015/16 domestic championship match on Saturday night – were fined US$5,000 after their supporters lit flares in the Champions League group stage loss to ASEC Mimosas last month.
ES Setif, meanwhile, were also fined US$5,000 for the same offence by their fans in an earlier encounter with Sudan’s Al Merreikh.
The 2014 African champions were also hit with a US$45,000 fine due to their fans’ behaviour in a group stage match with South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns – the encounter ended early due to riots and Setif were then disqualified from the competition.
The Algerian club will also have to play two matches behind closed doors when they next compete in a CAF competition.
