In a bizarre kind of tradition that forbids suicide, residents of Shikoye village in the Shirere sub-county of Kakamega county, Kenya, descended on the corpse of one of their kinsmen who committed suicide by hanging himself and gave it a very serious beating.
According to K24, a television station in the East African country, 36-year-old Nimrod Alusiola, had taken his life, something that is seen as a taboo in the culture of the land and to teach him (or his corpse), a lesson on respecting the culture, the villagers came together and beat up the dead body.
The beating, according to the villagers, was to cleanse the land and to deny Alusiola, whose body was found hanging from the roof of his house, the opportunity of reincarnation as it would bring calamity to the village.
