Black Stars mentor Avram Grant has gone unpaid for the last three months as part of the continuing battle between the Ghana FA and the country’s sports ministry, according to GHANASoccernet.
The website reports that the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), which is responsible for the payment of the salary, has frozen the payments due to a directive from the country's sports ministry.
This is the latest battle between the ministry and the Ghana FA, with the former’s refusal to pay for air fare and accommodation almost derailing the Black Stars’ final 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier with Rwanda earlier this month.
Grant’s contract with the Black Stars runs to the end of the 2017 AFCON finals, but he may be forced out sooner rather than later due to ongoing tension between sports minister Nii Lantey Vanderpuije and the Ghana FA.
The news of Grant’s treatment could have a major negative effect on Ghana’s preparations for their opening Group E 2018 World Cup qualifier against Uganda in Tamale on October 7.
