Ghana Can Win 2017 Nations Cup - South Africa Coach

Ghana have a great chance to win the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations, according to South Africa national team coach Ephraim ‘Shakes’ Mashaba.


The Bafana Bafana coach, whose position as national team mentor is under pressure after SA’s failure to qualify the Nations Cup finals, believes Ghana have what it takes to end their long wait for the continental crown.

The Black Stars almost took their fifth AFCON title last year, but they were beaten in the final by Ivory Coast. Ghana last won the Nations Cup in 1982.

“The Black Stars can pull a surprise to win the 2017 AFCON but they need to work hard,” Mashaba told Starr FM.

“It is going to be a difficult tournament because there are good teams making it as well, but looking at the pedigree of the Black Stars and how they performed in the last tournament I think they can win."

South Africa and Ghana will meet for a friendly in Durban next month after both teams have opened their group stage qualifiers for the 2018 World Cup.
