Andre Ayew made his return from injury on Wednesday night, helping West Ham United overcome Chelsea 2-1 in a League Cup clash.
Ayew replaced Manuel Lanzini in the second half of the cup tie at London Stadium – just his second appearance for the Hammers after injuring his thigh on debut back in August. Ironically, that match was also against Chelsea.
West Ham defeated their London rivals 2-1 thanks to goals from Cheikhou Kouyate and Edimilson Fernandes, though the match was perhaps more notable for scenes of fan violence in the stands.
Ayew’s return is good news not only for West Ham, but also for Ghana, who have a crunch 2018 World Cup qualifier away to Egypt next month.
Coach Avram Grant will be delighted that he can call on the services of Ayew for the Black Stars’ trip to Alexandria.
