Democratic Republic of Congo will miss their star player Yannick Bolasie in the 2017 CAF Africa Cup of Nations tournament.
The continental showpiece is set to be staged in Gabon next January and the Everton winger is ruled out due to a knee injury.
Reports suggest that Bolasie is set to be a notable absentee in the national side and could not play for the Toffees this season after rupturing his ligaments in Sunday’s 1-1 English Premier League draw with Manchester United.
“Yannick Bolasie will undergo surgery after sustaining a serious knee ligament injury against Manchester United on Sunday,” announced Everton.
“Bolasie picked up the injury in the second half of the 1-1 draw at Goodison and was replaced by Enner Valencia.
“Scans have now confirmed anterior cruciate ligament damage to the right knee. Bolasie will undergo surgery in the next few days.”
The development comes as a huge blow for the Leopards mentor Florent Ibenge with the former Crystal Palace man seen as one of the players to watch in the tournament.
The 27-year-old made a whopping £30-million switch at the start of the 2016/17 EPL season and settled in well at Goodison Park.
Ibenge's side are Group C together with reigning champions, Cote d'Ivoire, Morocco and Togo.
